Introduction

Train to become an RTITB Lift Truck Instructor and Examiner with our comprehensive 10-day course.

New instructors will require the ten-day course, those wishing to re-validate their current qualification will require a five day course.

This course is designed for experienced lift truck operators who want to provide training – either as an in-house instructor for their company or commercially (accreditation is required for commercial training).

Examination

All 4 elements must be successfully completed to achieve an overall pass and qualify as a Lift Truck Instructor.

Delegates must meet the eligibility criteria to complete this course and in addition, we strongly recommend a minimum of 6 months’ operating experience.

Advanced Operational Competence Test (Test to Instructor’s standard)
The candidate will be tested on the Counterbalance Lift Truck to Instructors standard. The candidate must score 25 penalty points or fewer to pass. If the candidate fails to pass on the first attempt, one additional attempt may be made during the course.
The lesson will be allocated on the first day of the course. The candidate will be required to deliver a 20–25-minute lesson to the other trainees and course instructor in the early part of the second week. There are no additional attempts during the course. However, there is time during the course to discuss, prepare and practice prior to the delivery of the lesson.
All candidates are required to sit and pass a theory test consisting of 48 questions, a score of 80% or higher is required to pass. If candidates are unsuccessful on their first attempt, the test may be re-taken an additional 2 times during the course. Mock theory tests are available to all candidates during the course.
Candidates will be required to deliver a 30-minute practical lesson on the final day of the course. The lesson will be delivered to an external RTITB examiner. The lesson will be allocated on the Wednesday morning of the second week, candidates will have 2 days to prepare and practice delivery. There are no additional attempts during the course.

To undertake this course:

  • Prior to attending the course, candidates must be in possession of a current operators test certificate of basic operating skills for a Counterbalance Lift Truck. This certificate must have been issued by an accredited organisation (AITT, RTITB, NPORS, ITSSAR, Lantra).
  • If you do not have a current operating certificate, we can complete this for you prior to the start of the instructor course.
  • The candidate MUST have, as a minimum, at least 6 months experience of operating a Counterbalance Lift Truck.
  • Candidates must have good written and verbal skills.
